The invitation

You do not have to
manage every moment.

A Journey to the Heart of Surrender is a 10-night, 11-day retreat in the Himalayan foothills of Dharamshala, India.

An invitation to step away from the pressure of everyday life, loosen our grip on how everything must happen, and remember that we do not have to manage every moment.

Perhaps you are good at taking care of what needs to be done. Your mind is often planning, anticipating or thinking ahead. Even when your body stops, part of you remains alert.

You long for rest, but find it difficult to completely let go.

A different way of being

Surrender is not giving up.

It is noticing how tightly we hold on.
Pausing before the body has to make us stop.
Accepting that we cannot control every outcome.

And gradually making more room for trust—
in ourselves, in one another and in life.

The days

A gentle rhythm.
Room to simply be.

Our days will have rhythm and a flow, but they will not be crowded. Enough space to listen.

01

Move & breathe

Kundalini Yoga, meditation, breathwork and practices that invite you to notice and listen to your body.

02

Listen & reflect

Sound healing, guided journaling and ceremonies exploring surrender, self-trust, compassion and release.

03

Rest & explore

Time in nature, walking meditation, two Tibetan healing massages and two day trips around McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala.

And woven through it all: spacious, unstructured time for rest and integration.

Your Himalayan home

Araam means rest.

We created our small retreat home in a Himalayan village around one simple belief: rest should not be an afterthought or something you have to earn.

Care in the little things.

At Araam, we practise Somatic Hospitality™: considering how every part of your stay affects your mind, body and spirit.

Weighted blankets, relaxing essential oils, lavender tea, lavender Epsom salt foot baths and sound healing are all part of the Araam experience.

Jaipreet (Joy)
Chandna

I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, by Punjabi immigrant parents who taught me the value of working hard, being responsible and caring for others.

For years, I became very good at the grind. I worked around the clock while quietly living with panic and anxiety—until temporary blindness in 2019 forced me to stop. That was my burnout.

Throughout my life, my parents had repeated one simple word to me: Araam. Rest. Slow down. Take care of yourself.

That word eventually became a home in the Himalayas, a philosophy and the heart of my work through Araam and The Rested Human™.

“I guide this journey not because I have mastered surrender, but because I continue to practise and learn from it.”
